Does Your POS System Software Perform the Right Functions?

Throughout the years, e-commerce technology has taught shoppers to be price savvy. It has changed the way consumers browse and buy. Customers can look online for a single item and find a multitude of retailers that all list a different or even lower price.

Corporate retailers have massive marketing budgets and a seemingly infinite amount of data available for analysis. It all may seem overwhelming to the smaller, independent retailer – leaving many wondering if and how competing with big business is possible. Don’t stress – it’s possible. And the answer is more attainable than you think.

When fighting big business for precious revenue, a retailer’s POS system software is their greatest offensive and defensive weapon. This game plan centers around the small retailer having a full-featured POS system software. If your store is running on a free app from a credit card processor, you should think about investing in a better tool rather than using a glorified cash register.

Small retailers must be smarter, faster, and more nimble – and small retailers typically do those things better anyway. Independent retailers need to remain focused, use every advantage, and always stay one step ahead. Dynamic POS systems have exactly what you need to wage (and hopefully win) this war against big business.

First, you need to know your customers like the back of your hand. Do you know when they buy, what they buy, and how they buy? In order to drive sales, you have to market information based on your specific consumer behavior.

Second, you need to look at how your POS software functions – determining what it has and what it needs. Does your POS system software have an e-commerce integration? Do you collect customer information within your point of sales software (and if so, what do you do with it?) Do you have the ability to perform remote sales off-site or use a mobile app that connects to your point of sale software? Do you own multiple stores connected – virtually managing all locations at one time? Do you sell and redeem gift cards?

If you can’t answer yes to all of these, then you need to look into point of sales systems that do.
